Pascal Simm

Mediator, Kiel and Lübeck

"As a mediator, I experience the exchange with patrons as a shared process of cartography. Each voice adds its own lines and contours, marking new features and site-specific qualities. Little by little, a kind of topography of the place emerges: shaped by history and anecdotes, carried by memories and emotions, as well as by the nature and architecture that define the cityscape. From this overall fabric grows an art commission for the here and now—one that does not come from outside, but from the community of a unique place itself."

Pascal Simm is an independent curator, art educator, and cultural project manager. After working at galleries and exhibition venues such as Galerie Buchmann, Westlicht Vienna, and Kunsthalle Kiel, he has been active with the Lübeck Art Association, the Overbeck-Gesellschaft, since 2013. In 2020, he became part of the Kulturfunke* funding program of the Possehl Foundation, which now annually awards a cultural prize for innovation and experimentation. Since 2023, he has been implementing the new international Lübeck Urban Art Festival on behalf of the City of Lübeck. In addition, Pascal Simm is co-founder of the collective Out for Art, dedicated to creating new urban art spaces and to strengthening the active participation of young people through contemporary art projects.
